Thank you for all the good wishes for my speedy recovery from a small health care leave. --I am doing well and on the slow road to recovery. I look forward to my return and was THRILLED to see the MIGHTY WOLF PACK on KUSI  Friday morning a week ago...it only got BETTER with the big WIN over Santana  to keep the Mayor's Cup in the PACK! Congrats to Coach Ash, his entire coaching staff and all the athletes for their victory! I am just bummed I couldn't be there to see it myself! Looking forward to my return in two weeks and I know WHHS is in good hands with the rest of the Admin team and interim VP Pat Price.

Please remember Friday, 9/22 is the 6 week progress report grade deadline for students and it is a minimum day. While most grades are "live" on Infinite Campus, these are the official grades for eligibility for all co-curricular activities, including athletics. Please ask your student(s) about and look at their grades and attendance online. Please make plans with them on how to access teacher help and / or tutoring if any grade is below a "C".
(See below for access to the Parent Portal in Infinite Campus and for our tutoring / attendance make up opportunities). Infinite Campus is the only notification parents get regarding grades and grade reports. The GUHSD does not U.S. mail any grade information. Contacting the teacher is the first line of communication on any grading question. You can find all West Hills teachers' contact information here.

Chromebook Troubleshooting Tips...

As we enter our third year as a FutureForward school with 1:1 Chromebooks, we have found that many common Chromebook issues may be fixed through basic troubleshooting. To help teachers and students with these frequently encountered issues, we created a 1-page "quick guide" that was recently shared as a hard copy with staff members for posting in classrooms.

For Those Times You Don't Have Wifi...

This week, we experienced a brief wifi outage at school and people didn't know what to do! As perfect timing, the GUHSDtech team just happened to share a guide for using Chromebooks offline.

When Chromebooks Break...

Although the library does not provide "day loan" Chromebooks or chargers when students forget items, it is still the place to go when Chromebooks are broken (or lost/stolen) and cannot be fixed through basic troubleshooting. In these cases, students are checked out long-term loan or replacement items.

If you get the chance, please remind students that the deadline for purchasing Chromebook insurance is quickly approaching - September 30th is the last day to purchase insurance online.

UNITY DAYS were AWESOME!! Thank YOU to all sophomores and staff who participated in this experience! Your SUPPORT of our message of kindness, RESPECTFUL, RESPONSIBLE and HONORABLE behaviors at WHHS is key. Students learned important communication and interpersonal skills while understanding more about their fellow students, teachers and staff. Parents and community members are key partners in this as well--supporting our work and providing the nurturing, caring and supportive environment for each of our students provides the backbone to making WHHS a great school to work and learn in! So proud of the class of 2020!

In keeping with our tradition of "We are One, We are the Pack" and to connect globally with other communities, take a read through the San Diego Union Tribune article at how Wolf Pack students are helping schools in Houston to recover from the recent hurricane:

Image result for attendance matters

As the school year is now closing in on the first six week grading period, we would like to thank you for your continued partnership with us as we work to see our students achieve their academic goals.

We know that good attendance is a key component in student success, so we are providing this opportunity to review our district attendance policy.  This policy review sheet will ensure that you know which absences are excused, which are unexcused, and how to clear an absence.

Please also take a look at the links regarding Saturday School for making up absences as well as our current tutorial schedule for fall.

We thank you in support of your student and their success through active daily attendance and monitoring their grades. Contacting the teacher is the first line of communication on any grading question. You can find all West Hills teachers' contact information here.

Mr. Goodman's Art Class is building more than art.....check out their problem solving and creativity skills at work....

Mrs. Addy's AP Chemistry students learned a lot while they mastered the new wireless temperature sensors in a lab experiment. AP Chemistry is equivalent to a first year college Chemistry course and is considered the highest level of academics a student can take while still in high school. "Advanced Placement" is a College Board program and we encourage all students to take one or more AP courses during their time at West Hills. We offer over 17 different courses throughout grades 10-12 and are very proud of our students, teachers and comprehensive program. Our newest addition this year is the optional AP Computer Science offering as part of our new Code.org curriculum taught by Mr. John Cross. Students successful in this course may choose to take the AP Computer Science exam. For more information on our AP program, please take a look at our website or contact our AP Coordinator, Mr. Tom Vanderhyde at tvanderhyde@guhsd.net.
