We have had some staff changes as promotions and retirements have taken hold:

Image result for TransitionsAssistant Principal Mary Nishikawa left us to go to the District level in support of our new College and Career office. In her place joining us is our newest Assistant Principal, Ms. Joann DuFloth. Our long time Assistant Principal Secretary, Mrs. Nancy Howell retired after 19 years and we are currently searching for her replacement. At the same time, our Finance Technician, Mrs. Janelle Malueg is working "double time" teaching part time at El Capitan and working part time in our Finance office until we can find a replacement for her. While we wish everyone well, we know we are in a transition mode for front office services and so appreciate your kindness and support as we add new staff and say "good luck" to those who have moved on.

September 6-9: School Site Council VOTING:
Parents vote for Parent reps:  Voting is available online via links sent in the Parent Portal and in paper ballots at the main office reception as well as at Back to School Night in the Black Circle. School Site Council is a required and welcomed addition to our school leadership and governance. Information was sent out in the parent portal and is repeated here for your reference. Nominations are now closed but we hope you will take a moment and vote for your 3 representatives for our School Site Council.

The responsibility of the School Site Council (SSC) is to analyze the academic achievement of the students at West Hills, including sub-groups, then develop plans to meet the needs identified by that data.  They will also work with other school advisory and parent groups, regarding developing/revising the Single Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA).  The SSC will provide on-going monitoring of the implementation of the SPSA, evaluate the effectiveness of the SPSA and recommend the SPSA to the Board of Trustees for their approval.  The SSC will work with the district to ensure that the Title I improvement plans are appropriate and integrated into the SPSA.

The time to secure your 2017 yearbook is now!  Last year, we sold out; avoid disappointment by reserving early.  Books are available at yearbookforever.com or from the finance office.  You can also order extra signing pages, personalization of the book (printing names and icons on the cover or an engraved tag), a cover, etc.  Families of seniors can design their memory ads, too.  Help is available at westhillsyearbook.com. Buy early and don't be disappointed.

Items of note are advertised in the student bulletin--we encourage you to go to our website and view this as often as you like--many parents note that the bulletin is the BEST way for them to know what their STUDENT is hearing each day in their period 3 class. In addition, the Counselors publish a newsletter quarterly specific to each grade which will be coming out soon. This is posted both on our website and sent directly through our parent and student portal in Infinite Campus.

It is the ONLY PLACE where GRADES are PUBLISHED as well as attendance. Please check the District Parent link for timely important notices and options about the legal sharing of your student(s) information.

CHROMEBOOK INSURANCE: Please consider getting insurance for your student's computer. The GUHSD has a new vendor and it is very affordable. Please check out this link...insurance is only available through the end of September.

By 2020, 65% of all jobs will require postsecondary education. Employers are demanding highly trained, competent and skilled workers in a wide array of industries.  That’s why the Grossmont Union High School District and Grossmont-Cuyamaca Community College District have joined forces to set all GUHSD students up for success. Students in the Class of 2019 and beyond from these east county high schools are automatically considered Higher Edge Scholars and will be able to participate in exciting new programs that will begin to be offered to students in the 2016/17 academic year. Students that fulfill the requirements of the Higher Edge Promise Scholarship criteria will be rewarded with FREE college for their first 30 units at either Grossmont or Cuyamaca Colleges.
