Another summer is winding down and we begin our new school year MONDAY, AUGUST 15! All students  may look in their Infinite Campus portal for their schedule starting on Thursday, August 11 at 4:00 p.m. Look for important information to come to you via your student and parent portal regarding any schedule adjustments. No adjustments will be made for start or end times and only students with "hard conflicts--I passed this class in summer school and don't need it anymore" will be addressed due to the fine balance of student to teacher class size and master schedule balancing.

Speaking of the student and parent portal...

Students in the Class of 2019 and beyond from these east county high schools are automatically considered Higher Edge Scholars and will be able to participate in exciting new programs that will begin to be offered to students in the 2016/17 academic year. Students that fulfill the requirements of the Higher Edge Promise Scholarship criteria will be rewarded with FREE college for their first 30 units at either Grossmont or Cuyamaca Colleges.

Manufacturing Pathway

West Hills High School has begun a new Career/Technical Education (CTE) pathway for our students.  Based on community needs and input, we are instituting a manufacturing pathway.  The Manufacturing Pathway is a three-year sequence of courses starting in the 10th grade year.  Year one is Drafting & Design which will teach the students manual and CAD drafting.  Students will learn to use AutoCad and be introduced to SolidWorks.  Year two takes the students to the new manufacturing facility.  It will have the CAD lab along with various CNC machines, a laser cutter, and various machines for working with different materials.  Year three will take students to the design and manufacture of prototypes and add robotics to set-up manufacturing processes.  Drafting & Design is articulated with Cuyamaca College and students may earn up to three units of college credit. We look forward to a terrific learning experience and a group of student poised to enter a high wage, future focused industry sector upon graduation! If your student is interested in this pathway and for more information, please contact the teacher, Mrs. Kathy Worley at kworley@guhsd.net or by calling 956-0400.
