Welcome to our first online Wolf Call! Since West Hills opened in 1987, the Principal has had a newsletter with this title to facilitate information and communication. We are always looking for ways to keep us connected and hope this blog adds one more support to all in our school community.
Speaking of communication, how "connected" are you? Please read your way through this blog and "click" on links to take you to the topics described. Hopefully you already know about our student information system,, but if you don't please register and get an account! You can see your students' grades, attendance, schedule and so much more but only if you "click" on the icon and "create an account". You choose the level of communication you want to receive via this important tool--GRADES are ONLY PUBLISHED within this portal! It is critical that all parents, guardians and students are using and checking their Infinite Campus accounts and messages. If you need any assistance with this, please call us at 956-0400 and we are happy to help you. We also have a computer kiosk in our main reception area for your use if helpful.
PARENT and COMMUNITY SUPPORT: A huge THANK YOU to all parents, grandparents, guardians, and wonderful West Hills Wolf Pack families for all of your support through the years. We have two wonderful organizations that work TIRELESSLY on behalf of our school and our current students: PTSA and the West Hills High School Foundation. Please take a moment to review the documents your current student brought home for signature and review and consider JOINING these organizations. PTSA focuses on the current school year and the current students. The Foundation reaches out to Alumni and current parents to support school wide needs and activities. We hope you will JOIN them and continue the great tradition of exemplary parent and community involvement in our school.
ATTENDANCE: If your student will be leaving for any reason during the school day, please have them bring a written parent note into Attendance. If they will be absent a full day, please call in to our 24 hour attendance line at 619-956-0434. You can look at your student's complete attendance record in Infinite Campus 24/7. Please follow up with the teacher reporting the attendance if you have a specific question or with our Attendance office if you have a full-day question. They can be reached at 619-956-0431 or 619-956-0432. Visit our website for additional information.
GRADUATION: All seniors must have earned 220 credits to graduate and to participate in graduation exercises. Graduation is Thursday, June 16 at 8:30 a.m. in our stadium. There is no 'saving of seats" and the stadium opens at 7:30 a.m. No early entries will be allowed. Parking and Seating is limited. Car pooling or Uber is encouraged. There will be limited Handicapped parking available. Please plan ahead and look for the handout coming soon to each senior for more information.
GRADES / CREDITS / SUMMER SCHOOL: Please review GRADES online in our Parent Portal. There is still time for students and parents to talk with teaches and improve grades if needed. Any student with an "F" at the semester's end or on their transcript does need to re-take the course for credit. A student needs 220 credits to graduate. These credit requirements are on our website under "Counseling". Summer School will be offered June 20-July 8. Please have your student go to Counseling to sign up to make up any final semester grade of an "F" if the course is available in summer school. We also offer online credit recovery during the school year if the student has a free period to take it.
Reminder: School starts AUGUST 15 this year! Please check this website for full information regarding the calendar for vacation dates, end of the semester dates and end of year for 2016-17.
ATHLETICS: If you have a student athlete, they must complete the athletics clearance process done online in order to participate. Please check our website for full information. Note: A student must have a medical physical clearance for all participation in both athletics and Marching Band. It is good for one year from the date submitted. The ideal time to have that physical is NOW so that you won't need to do one in the middle of the year (again) for a new sport season.
